Send in the Clowns" is a song written by Stephen Sondheim for the 1973 musical A Little Night Music. Sondheim wrote this with a 12/8 time signature with retards throughout which adds a beautiful touch to the lyrics' story. This was an adaptation of Ingmar Bergman's 1955 film Smiles of a Summer Night.
